How to Use AccessSIL FF-2001 in Your Formulations
Understanding AccessSIL FF-2001
Have you ever wondered how long-lasting lipsticks stay put or how water-resistant sunscreens work? The secret is often a powerful film-forming ingredient like AccessSIL FF-2001. Think of this ingredient as creating an invisible, breathable, and flexible shield on the surface of your skin or hair. Its main job is to create a durable layer that holds other ingredients—like pigments in makeup or UV filters in sunscreen—in place.
Made from a silicone resin called Trimethylsiloxysilicate, AccessSIL FF-2001 excels at resisting water and preventing transfer. As your product dries, it forms a stable, net-like structure that is strong enough to withstand rubbing, sweat, and water, while remaining flexible and comfortable so it doesn’t feel tight or crack on the skin. This is what delivers those coveted “long-wear,” “transfer-resistant,” and “smudge-proof” claims.
Formulation Tips
Recommended use level: 1–10%. For lightweight skincare or daily-wear makeup, start at 1–3%. For more demanding applications like waterproof mascara or transfer-proof liquid lipstick, use 5–10%.
AccessSIL FF-2001 is a powder that should be incorporated into the oil or silicone phase. It is not water-soluble. Disperse it into low-viscosity silicones (e.g., cyclopentasiloxane, cyclomethicone) or solvents like isododecane and cosmetic esters. Gentle heating to about 70 °C (158 °F) can help achieve full dissolution; mix thoroughly before emulsification.
It is highly versatile and compatible with a wide range of cosmetic oils, esters, and silicones. It performs in anhydrous systems (lip products, eyeliners, primers) and in emulsions (foundations, sunscreens, creams). In pigmented systems, it helps lock pigments in place, minimize settling into fine lines, and enhance overall wear and finish.
Key Performance Benefits:
- Exceptional Durability: Creates a resilient film that extends makeup wear, keeping products fresh for hours.
- Superior Water Resistance: Forms a hydrophobic barrier that resists water and sweat, ideal for sport sunscreens and waterproof cosmetics.
- Transfer Resistance: Helps prevent pigments from transferring onto fabrics, cups, or masks.
- Comfortable & Flexible: Provides a breathable, non-tacky film that moves with skin without feeling heavy.
- Improved Sensory: Enhances slip and finish for a smooth, silky, non-greasy feel.
- Broad Compatibility: Easily integrates into oil/silicone phases across anhydrous systems and O/W or W/O emulsions.
