How to Use AccessSIL EMUL-92 in Your Formulations

Understanding Water-in-Silicone (W/Si) Emulsions

Most creams and lotions are oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions. AccessSIL EMUL-92 enables water-in-silicone (W/Si) systems, where tiny water droplets are dispersed in a continuous silicone phase—like water pearls suspended inside a silky silicone matrix. This structure delivers superior water resistance, a refined sensory profile, and the signature quick-break on application that consumers love.

AccessSIL EMUL-92 is a self-emulsifying silicone elastomer gel based on Dimethicone and a Dimethicone/PEG-10/15 Crosspolymer. The crosslinked elastomer network imparts a cushiony, bouncy gel texture that spreads effortlessly and dries to a soft, powdery finish that blurs the look of pores and fine lines—never greasy or tacky.

Formulation Tips

Work cold process to protect heat-sensitive actives and simplify manufacturing. Typical use level is 2–6%: use 2–4% for lightweight serums and primers, and 4–6% for richer creams or to stabilize higher water content.

Phase guidance: Add AccessSIL EMUL-92 to the silicone/oil phase with your dimethicone and other compatible emollients. In a separate beaker, prepare the water phase. For best stability, include 1–2% Sodium Chloride to balance osmotic pressure across droplets.

  1. Combine AccessSIL EMUL-92 with the silicone phase components.
  2. Begin moderate shear mixing (overhead stirrer or medium-speed homogenizer).
  3. Very slowly add the water phase into the silicone phase in a thin stream; observe thickening to a white, creamy emulsion.
  4. Continue mixing several minutes to refine droplet size and uniformity, then add any cool-down actives, fragrance, and preservatives.

Key Performance Benefits

  • Creates elegant, silky textures: The silicone elastomer delivers a cushiony glide and powdery-soft finish for a premium feel.
  • Cold-process friendly: No heating required, saving time and protecting heat-sensitive actives.
  • Excellent water resistance: The continuous silicone phase forms a breathable barrier ideal for sunscreens and long-wear makeup.
  • Quick-break sensory: Transforms from gel-cream to a lightweight fluid on rub-in, leaving a clean, non-greasy afterfeel.
  • Skincare and makeup versatility: Ideal for serums, moisturizers, primers, foundations, and AP/DEO formats.
  • Stabilizes high water content: Efficiently emulsifies significant water loads for hydrating yet durable systems.

Frequently Asked Questions About AccessSIL EMUL-92

It’s a special type of cream where tiny water droplets are suspended in a base of silicone. This is different from most lotions, which are oil droplets in water. W/Si emulsions feel incredibly silky and are great for creating water-resistant products.
A good starting range is 2% to 6% of your total formula weight. Use around 2–4% for lighter serums and 4–6% for more traditional creams or if you have a lot of water in your recipe.
No. This is a cold-process emulsifier, which is a major benefit. You can make your entire product at room temperature, making it easier and gentler on heat-sensitive ingredients.
The two most common reasons are adding the water phase too quickly, or not using an electrolyte. Always add your water phase very slowly to your silicone phase while mixing. Also, try adding 1–2% Sodium Chloride (salt) to your water phase before you start mixing; this often improves stability dramatically.
It starts with a cushiony, gel-cream feel, breaks into a light fluid on rub-in, and dries down to a smooth, powdery finish. It is not greasy or sticky.
Yes, you can incorporate esters or natural oils into the silicone phase along with AccessSIL EMUL-92. However, it performs best when silicone is the predominant continuous phase of the emulsion.
Absolutely. It creates silky primers and enhances long-wear foundations and cream color, improving spreadability, blendability, and resistance to sweat and humidity.
