How to Use AccessSIL ACT-99A in Your Formulations

Understanding AccessSIL ACT-99A

AccessSIL ACT-99A is what formulators call a cationic emulsion of an amine-functional silicone. In simple terms, it’s a “smart” conditioner for hair care products. Damaged hair tends to carry a negative charge, and because this ingredient is cationic (positively charged), it’s naturally attracted to those damaged areas. The result is targeted conditioning exactly where it’s needed most—without over-depositing on healthier hair that can lead to weight or buildup.

The key active, Amodimethicone, is a modified silicone renowned for smoothing the hair cuticle, reducing frizz, and imparting a silky feel. It’s supplied in a pre-emulsified liquid form with cationic and nonionic surfactants, so it disperses easily into water-based systems like conditioners and shampoos. This eliminates the complexity of emulsifying a viscous silicone oil yourself, making it straightforward for both beginner and advanced formulators.

Formulation Tips

Use AccessSIL ACT-99A at 1–6%. For everyday conditioners and shampoos, 1–3% is a solid starting point. For deep masks, intensive repair systems, or very damaged hair, 4–6% is recommended.

It’s easy to incorporate. You can add it to the water phase before heating and emulsification, or simply add it during cool-down below 40°C (104°F) and stir gently to ensure uniform distribution. It performs best in formulas with pH 4.0–7.5 and offers excellent dilution stability in shampoos. Compatibility is broad with most cationic and nonionic ingredients.

Key Performance Benefits:

  • Targeted Damage Repair: Deposits preferentially on negatively charged, damaged sites to deliver focused conditioning without heavy buildup.
  • Superior Detangling & Softness: Significantly reduces wet and dry combing forces, minimizing breakage and leaving a silky, smooth feel.
  • Enhanced Color Protection: Forms a protective, durable film that helps reduce wash-out and supports longer-lasting color vibrancy and shine.
  • Excellent Frizz Control: Smooths the cuticle and tames flyaways, delivering a sleek, polished look—even in humid conditions.
  • Easy to Formulate: Pre-emulsified liquid can be stirred in at room temperature during cool-down, simplifying processing and saving time.
  • Silky, Non-Greasy Feel: High-performance conditioning with a lightweight finish that won’t make hair feel coated or heavy.
