How to Use AccessPON LSA in Your Formulations
Understanding AccessPON LSA
If you’re looking to create cleansing products like shampoos or body washes, you need a surfactant. Surfactants are the ingredients that create foam and do the actual cleaning. For years, sulfates (like SLS and SLES) were the standard, but many consumers now prefer milder, sulfate-free options. AccessPON LSA is a perfect solution. It’s a concentrated blend of two gentle, sulfate-free surfactants: Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate and Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate.
Think of this blend as a pre-made cleansing powerhouse. It delivers the rich, satisfying foam that consumers love, but in a much gentler way. Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate is known for being extremely mild and non-irritating, while Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate is a fantastic foaming agent often derived from natural sources. Together, they create a synergistic effect, giving you excellent performance that’s suitable even for baby products and sensitive skin. Because its molecules are larger than those of traditional sulfates, it doesn’t penetrate and irritate the skin as easily, making it a top choice for gentle formulations.
Formulation Tips
AccessPON LSA is easy to work with, even for beginners. It comes in a liquid form that readily disperses in the water phase of your formula at room temperature.
For usage rates, a good starting point is between 10–20% for a primary surfactant in a shampoo or body wash. You can go as low as 4–8% if you’re using it as a secondary surfactant to boost foam in another system, or as high as 30–40% for a high-foaming, concentrated cleanser.
This blend works best in formulations with a final pH between 5.0 and 7.0, which is the ideal range for skin- and hair-friendly products. If your formula’s pH is too low or too high, the surfactant may lose its effectiveness over time. You can easily thicken products made with AccessPON LSA using common thickeners like natural gums or polymer thickeners. It is also compatible with most conditioning agents and botanical extracts, giving you great formulation flexibility.
Key Formulation Benefits:
- Sulfate-Free, Gentle Performance: Delivers effective cleansing without the potential for irritation associated with traditional sulfates like SLS or SLES. It’s an excellent choice for “sulfate-free” product claims.
- Rich, Stable Lather: Produces a dense, creamy, and stable foam that consumers associate with high-quality cleansing products. The foam structure provides a luxurious user experience.
- Easy to Use: As a liquid blend, it’s simple to incorporate into the water phase of formulations at room temperature, streamlining the production process.
- Formulation Versatility: Can be used as a primary or secondary surfactant and is compatible with a wide range of co-surfactants, conditioning agents, and actives.
- Ideal for Sensitive Skin: The inherent mildness of the sulfosuccinate and sulfoacetate combination makes it suitable for formulating products for babies, children, and adults with sensitive skin.
- Excellent Viscosity Response: Builds viscosity well with common thickeners, allowing you to easily create products ranging from thin, pumpable lotions to thick, rich gels.
