How to Use AccessPON LM in Your Formulations
Understanding AccessPON LM
AccessPON LM is a type of ingredient called an amphoteric surfactant. Think of surfactants as the primary cleaning agents in products like shampoos and body washes—they grab onto dirt and oil so they can be washed away with water. What makes an amphoteric surfactant like AccessPON LM special is its incredible mildness. While some surfactants can be harsh and strip natural oils, AccessPON LM cleanses gently, making it perfect for products designed for sensitive skin, babies, or daily use.
Its second major benefit is foam. Consumers associate a rich, thick lather with a product that is working well. AccessPON LM is a fantastic foaming agent, creating a dense, creamy, and stable foam that feels wonderful. For formulators, it’s a multi-functional problem solver. You can use it as the main cleanser (primary surfactant) in an ultra-gentle formula, or you can add it to a formula with stronger surfactants (like SLES) to make the final product much milder and improve the foam quality. It effectively reduces the irritation potential of the entire system.
Formulation Tips
For most applications, a usage rate of 1–10% is recommended. If you are creating an ultra-mild product like a baby wash, you might use AccessPON LM at the higher end of the range as your primary surfactant. If you are using it to boost foam and reduce irritation in a traditional shampoo, you might use it at the lower end (1–5%) as a secondary surfactant.
AccessPON LM is a water-soluble liquid, making it very easy to work with. Simply add it to the water phase of your formulation at room temperature and stir until it is fully dispersed. It is compatible with most other types of surfactants, including anionic (like sulfates and isethionates), non-ionic (like glucosides), and other amphoteric surfactants. This versatility allows you to fine-tune your cleansing system to achieve the perfect balance of cleansing power, foam, and mildness. It is stable over a wide pH range, typically between 5 and 9.
Key Performance Benefits:
- Exceptionally Mild Cleansing: Gently cleanses the skin and hair without stripping natural oils, making it ideal for sensitive, delicate, or dry skin types.
- Rich & Stable Foam: Produces a dense, luxurious, and long-lasting lather that improves the sensory experience of shampoos, soaps, and body washes.
- Irritation Reduction: When combined with stronger anionic surfactants (like SLES), it significantly reduces their potential for irritation, resulting in a much gentler final product.
- Excellent Co-Surfactant: Works synergistically with other surfactants to improve the overall performance of a cleansing system, enhancing foam, viscosity, and mildness.
- Easy to Formulate: As a water-soluble liquid, it is simple to incorporate into formulations during the water phase without needing heat.
- Versatile and Compatible: Effective across shampoos, facial cleansers, body washes, and baby care; compatible with anionic, non-ionic, and amphoteric systems.
