How to Use AccessPON ES-270 in Your Formulations

Understanding AccessPON ES-270

AccessPON ES-270 is a primary surfactant—the main cleansing and foaming engine in shampoos, body washes, and similar rinse-off products. Its job is to bind to oils, dirt, and impurities so they can be rinsed away with water. The INCI name is Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES).

For the technical-minded, SLES is an anionic surfactant. Its negatively charged head group provides strong detergency and abundant, stable foam. By lowering surface tension in water, it helps water penetrate and lift away soils. Compared to Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), SLES is ethoxylated, which generally makes it milder and less irritating while maintaining excellent lather and cleansing performance.

Formulation Tips

AccessPON ES-270 is a high-viscosity liquid that disperses easily in the water phase at room temperature and performs well over a broad pH range (approximately 5 to 10).

As a primary surfactant, typical usage is 8–15%. For very high-foam systems like bubble baths, you can increase up to 30%. As a secondary foam booster in milder systems, 2–5% is often sufficient.

Blend with amphoteric surfactants (e.g., Cocamidopropyl Betaine) to increase mildness and improve foam creaminess. Viscosity can be adjusted simply with sodium chloride (salt). Add a diluted salt solution slowly to avoid surpassing the “salt curve” peak, which can cause thinning.

Key Formulation Benefits:

  • Excellent Foaming Power: Produces rich, dense, and stable lather ideal for shampoos, shower gels, and bubble baths.
  • Effective Cleansing: Efficiently removes dirt, excess oil, and product residue from hair and skin.
  • Cost-Effective Performance: Delivers strong results at competitive cost for mass-market and value-driven formulas.
  • Easy to Thicken: Viscosity is easily tuned with sodium chloride for gel-like textures without additional rheology modifiers.
  • Great Compatibility: Works well with amphoteric and non-ionic surfactants to build mild, high-performing cleansing systems.
  • Versatile Applications: Suitable for clarifying shampoos, daily body washes, liquid hand soaps, and luxury bubble baths.

Frequently Asked Questions About AccessPON ES-270

AccessPON ES-270 is the primary cleansing and foaming agent. It creates the lather that lifts dirt and oil from hair and skin so they can be rinsed away.
Use 8–15% for most shampoos and body washes. For very high-foam systems like bubble baths, you can go up to 30%. As a secondary foam booster in milder systems, 2–5% is typical.
Add to the water phase. It disperses easily at room temperature; then proceed with the rest of your water-phase ingredients.
No. AccessPON ES-270 is Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES). It is related to SLS but ethoxylated, which generally makes it milder and less irritating while retaining excellent foaming and cleansing.
No. SLES is a sulfate-based surfactant. For sulfate-free claims, select alternative surfactants (e.g., glucosides or amino-acid-based systems).
Amphoteric surfactants like Cocamidopropyl Betaine can increase mildness and enhance foam creaminess. You can also tune viscosity with small, incremental additions of sodium chloride.
SLES follows a “salt curve.” Salt thickens up to a peak; beyond that point, additional salt causes rapid thinning. Add a diluted salt solution slowly and stop when the desired viscosity is reached.
