How to Use AccessFIX PAU-50 in Your Formulations
Understanding AccessFIX PAU-50
AccessFIX PAU-50 is a hair fixative polymer (film-former) — the key ingredient that provides hold in gels, mousses, and sprays. As your product dries, the polymer forms a clear, flexible film on the hair fiber, connecting strands and locking styles in place without a tacky residue.
For the chemistry-minded, AccessFIX PAU-50 is an anionic polymer dispersion. In its raw state, polymer chains are coiled. When you neutralize the dispersion with a base, the chains uncoil, viscosity builds, clarity improves, and the polymer is “activated” to form a strong, continuous film upon drying. This activation step is what delivers high hold and excellent humidity resistance.
Formulation Tips
Use 2–10% depending on desired performance. For light-to-medium hold sprays, use 2–5%. For firm/strong-hold gels or edge control formats, use 6–10%.
Neutralization is the critical step for performance and clarity. General process:
1. Disperse AccessFIX PAU-50 into the water phase with good mixing (initial mix will be thin and acidic).
2. Slowly add a neutralizer while mixing — common choices include Aminomethyl Propanol (AMP), Triethanolamine (TEA), or sodium hydroxide.
3. As pH rises, viscosity and clarity develop. Target a final pH of 7.0–8.0 for optimal hold, film formation, and humidity resistance.
Compatibility: AccessFIX PAU-50 works well with many styling additives and plasticizers; add these after neutralization when possible. Because it is anionic, avoid high levels of cationic materials that can cause instability or haze.
Key Performance Benefits
- Strong, Long-Lasting Hold: Provides durable style retention that lasts all day.
- Excellent Humidity Resistance: Shields styles from moisture to reduce frizz and droop in humid conditions.
- Crystal Clear Formulations: Ideal for sparkling, transparent gels and sprays.
- Non-Tacky Feel: Dries clean when properly neutralized, avoiding gummy residue.
- Formulation Versatility: Suitable for gels, mousses, setting lotions, and non-aerosol sprays.
- Fast Drying & Low Flaking: Forms films that dry quickly with minimal white residue.
