How to Use SanFill TA in Your Formulations
What SanFill TA Does
SanFill TA functions as a bulking and carrier filler in powder-based color cosmetics — the same role conventional talc plays in pressed and loose powder systems. It builds bulk, provides slip and smoothness, and carries color pigments evenly through a formula. Independent testing shows it matches talc’s oil absorption (66.40 vs. 64.00 g/100g), pH range (5–10), and low moisture content (LoD <1%), meaning it can generally be substituted at a similar use level without reformulating the rest of the batch.
Formulation Tips
In benchmark pressed-eyeshadow testing, SanFill TA was substituted 1:1 for SanTalc H108 at 40% of the total formula (as the primary Phase A filler), alongside standard binders (magnesium stearate), color-effect pigments, and emollients. As a general starting point, use SanFill TA at 20–50% of the total formula, in line with typical talc usage levels, adjusting up or down based on desired payoff and cake hardness.
Suggested process:
1. Add SanFill TA and other Phase A powders to a blender and mix on high for 1 minute.
2. Add pigment/filler Phase B and blend for an additional minute.
3. Scrape sides and blend for 30 seconds.
4. Add Phase C binders/emollients as needed.
5. Fill pans and press (tested successfully at 600 psi for 5 seconds).
Key Formulation Benefits
- Talc-Equivalent Oil Absorption: Matches conventional talc’s oil absorption profile (66.40 vs. 64.00 g/100g) for predictable formulation behavior.
- Comparable Drop & Impact Resistance: Performs similarly to talc under 5-inch and 10-inch drop testing, supporting cake integrity in pressed formats.
- Matching Wetting Behavior: Contact angle performance tracks closely with talc over time, indicating similar surface-wetting characteristics.
- Consumer-Preferred Sensory Feel: Panel testing found no adverse sensory trade-offs, with a preference toward SanFill TA where differences were noted.
