Retinyl Palmitate is the ester of retinol and palmitic acid. Once applied to the skin, it undergoes stepwise conversion: first to retinol, then to retinaldehyde, and finally to retinoic acid—the active form that engages cellular receptors to promote youthful behavior in skin cells. This cascade stimulates collagen production, accelerates cellular turnover, and supports dermal thickening. Formulation Guidelines
This high-potency (1.7 Million IU/g) Retinyl Palmitate is a viscous, oil-soluble active best incorporated into the oil phase. To preserve activity, add during the cool-down phase below 40°C (104°F). Because it is sensitive to UV light and oxidation, package finished formulas in opaque or UV-protective containers. Formulating with antioxidants such as Tocopherol (Vitamin E) can further enhance stability. Target a final formulation pH between 4.0 and 6.5.
