Performance & Formulation Insights for Starphere KE23CP30-01
How Color-Changing Charcoal Beads Work
Starphere KE23CP30-01 utilizes a unique encapsulation technology. The core active, activated charcoal powder, is contained within a solid matrix of mannitol and cellulose. This matrix remains intact within a formula yet breaks down easily under the mechanical pressure of rubbing. Upon application, the spheres rupture and release the entrapped black charcoal, creating a visible color transformation from light blue to grey that signals activation. The highly porous charcoal then adsorbs impurities, excess sebum, and environmental pollutants, helping to draw them away from the skin’s surface and pores for a clarified, deeply cleansed feel.
Formulation Guidelines
These insoluble beads are designed for easy incorporation and maximum visual impact. Disperse them in the final phase of your formulation under low-shear mixing to maintain bead integrity. For emulsions (o/w or w/o), add during the cool-down phase below 40°C. For anhydrous or w/s systems, add at any point using gentle agitation. Formulate within pH 5.0–8.0, and avoid high-shear homogenization after addition. Recommended usage level is 0.5% to 5%, adjusting for desired visual density and cleansing intensity.
Key Formulation Benefits
- Engaging Visual Cue: Color-change technology provides a satisfying “proof of action” as beads turn grey upon release of charcoal.
- Potent Detoxification: Activated charcoal adsorbs impurities, metabolic waste, and pollutants to promote a clearer-looking complexion.
- Superior Sebum Control: Helps absorb excess oil, reducing shine and the appearance of enlarged pores.
- Gentle Exfoliation: Beads provide mild physical exfoliation as they break down during massage, aiding removal of dead skin cells.
- Versatile Application: Compatible with rinse-off gels, o/w and w/o emulsions, and anhydrous bases across face, body, and scalp care.
- Enhanced Stability: Encapsulation isolates charcoal until use, minimizing interaction with other formula components.
